I don’t mean to sound silly , but I am really looking forward to playing the OC Fair this weekend. This was the fair that I went to as a kid and took those black and white pictures with my friends, hung out, went on throw up rides and caused general mayhem. I never would have guessed years later that I would have a band and we would be playing up there. It’s a bit of a crack up. I also can not believe that it is coming up so soon. This Sunday is going to be here before you know it. So see if you can’t get away for a night to join us, stay up late and eat cotton candy like you are a kid again, at least that’s what I am going to do…
So, I have to say driving over to Clancy’s the other night, I was questioning my sanity a little bit. I couldn’t believe I was driving out to a show after another full weekend, feeling exhausted and tired. Not knowing what to expect, or if we would just be playing for a few bar flies eating corned beef. Once, I hit Broadway though I could hear the sound of Give Up the Girl from about 2 blocks away. It was driving with a heavy strong, emotional sound and suddenly I just got in the mood to get up and rock.
Apparently the guys were in the same mood because the show turned out to be really fun. The fellas were on point and after that initial song or two warming up, we were all well in sync. Sweat was pouring into my eyes and down my forehead. What a way to get a workout. We played my new song “Different” and I was really happy to do so, because it is a song that really makes me happy to sing. The audience was there listening and digging it, and so were we. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday night after all.
I am super excited to announce that we have a new member of the Brigade. He is young, cool and talented. So I hope you all will help me in making Roman feel welcome. He is bringing his saxophone skills to help make my dream of an upbeat, uplifting, ska infused sound a reality. He will be joining us for our gig at the OC Fair, so come on out and get a taste of our new flava!
I was directed towards this great live clip of Delta Nove today. They were playing Alex’s Bar, which is a fantastic spot in Long Beach, if you haven’t been. Delta Nove is a local force to be reckoned with. Their style is deeply funky and full of range, all of which is super fun and uplifting. This particular clip is featuring a few horn players that I know, Nick Chaffee, who blessed me with his trumpet skills on the record and an awesome saxophone performance by Sean Chaffins of Badfish. I was just reminded of the Ani Difranco song, You Next Bold Move and it reminded me of how powerful a song can be at a pinnacle moment in life. I remember sitting with a back pack in Australia, packing my things out of this ol school bus I was living in and not exactly sure where I was gonna go next. I am not sure if that was she meant when she wrote that tune, but to me it meant a lot at the time. I love how we as people can apply other’s experiences to our own, almost as if it were ourselves who was doing the talking. Ani is pretty darn good as writing that kind of thing.
Just wanted to let you know that I am really looking forward to the gig this Saturday night. It will be the fist time in a long time where I will just be playing by myself, like the good ol days. I have been writing some new tunes and I welcome the opportunity to let them come out and play. If you are interested in checkin it out go to my calendar page to get all the info. Alta Coffee is a great hang out that have booked me since I was a youngster. It’s nestle next to the Balboa Peninsula and is known by locals as the place to go, relax, eat and listen to some chilled out music. Hope to see you there.
Hey there! Just wanted to let you all know that we are honored to be playing at this year’s United Way Walk-A-Thon fundraiser at Aneheim Stadium. The United Way is well known for their amazing contributions to the community and for the good work they do in helping people move to from dependence to sustainability. I personally have a real heart for their work and are thrilled to participate in their fundraiser. I had a fantastic chance to go out and support the Long Beach Summer Music festival at their kick off party yesterday, hosted by Fingerprint owner Rand. I am not sure what his last name is. He owns the awesome record store next to where I work. You should definitely check out their website because they are constantly having free shows, just last week Everest played…

It was all very spontaneous and amazing. We were sitting on the waterfront enjoying sushi and stellar coconut shrimp. More than anything it was just amazing to see all the talent that is so palpable in Long Beach, musicians, poets, actors, non profit organizations, art, life! I was thrilled to just sit back and chill, looking forward to the summer that lies ahead. If you aren’t feeling it, come out to Long Beach and check out what they are up to, there’s plenty of love to go around.
Hey there folks. I hope you have enjoyed the new tunes from the record. After a bit of down time I have decided to reconnect with my roots a bit and play a solo acoustic gig.
